It's in the title, since leaving Clawson Lodge as the Events Manager at the end of September, time has moved more slowly for me (and it needs to at my age), it's given me the opportunity to validate how much I enjoy my own business working with brides and grooms, how much enjoyment I get out of it. Meeting a couple for the first time, listening to what they have to say about their venue, colours, wedding scheme and style. I have heard it so many times from the grooms " I'm happy if she's happy", with the bride saying " I wish he would have more of a input", it's meant to be OUR wedding . Dressing our table in the colour sashes which the bride and groom has chosen, knowing that they feel reassured of what their wedding reception tables will look like. I know a lot of couples find it hard to visualize everything they have chosen for their special day and I can understand why, they have samples of fabric colour coming out of their ears, the bridesmaids dresses will be this colour the men's suits will be this colour, the colour of the flowers will be this colour, it goes on and on, but with the help of myself, I show them how we put all the details and wishes together.
I have spent the last few weeks updating my website and learning how to do instagram with guidance from my daughter Emily. It's been a busy time with all the dressings we have had, with Baby blue, Baby Pink, Red, Burnt Orange, Mocha, Peach, Silver and we still have more to come. I have also missed doing the wedding fairs this year, hopefully next year I will have the time and opportunity to exhibit at some lovely venues to meet new brides & grooms, I also hope to do regular open days at the showroom with Emily from Em'z Flower Boutique, once we have had a bit of a clear up and a redesign of the layout. I keep saying to her, we just have to much stuff, it's hard fitting a pint in to a half pint pot, but we do eventually manage it. Autumn is here and our busy wedding season is coming to a end, I have a few more dressings to do for October and November, giving me December a month to relax and get ready for Christmas, I always say to brides and grooms have December off, no discussing weddings, to start again in January go and enjoy Christmas and spend it with family and friends. Well since my last blog a lot has happened for me, I was the Wedding Co-ordinator for Clawson Lodge and a few weeks ago was made the Events Manager, it's a challenging job at the moment, trying to pick up the pieces from my predecessor who's filing was pieces of paper put inside a diary. It has taken me a few peeks to get organised with new contact sheets and pricing which hopefully in time I will get right ( no manager above me to give me figures). The venue is a lovely place to work and the staff are wonderful ( volunteers mostly), I have my own office but unfortunately does not have a computer or printer so having to work from home. I have done quite a few wedding here over the last 3 years and the place is just lovely, it has fantastic facilities including disable access, disable toilets and the kitchen is to die for for any catering company. It is so close to town and within easy access of transport links and with it's own beautiful garden and seating area, and may I say this to me would be high on any couples list, outside space is a premium theses days, for all they memorable photo's.
I am managing to juggle this job as well as my own business, which again has got a lot busier, I have done lots of consultations lately and bookings. I am nearly booked up for this year and have a few space for next year, this could be do to the revamp of the website and all the good reviews which I have been getting on facebook, but as you know I'm not technical minded, but I think the website looks a lot more professional and clearer for people. The new packages are going down a storm, it's knowing what couples wanted and that is the million to one question, before I used to do a lot of individual prices which for me was not a problem, but after listening to a lot of couples and trying to identify what they wanted, I just new the way forward was the packages. Since New Year things have just got better for Wedding Delights, we have taken on some staff to help with dressing (I'm not getting any younger) had a lot of recommendations which means I must be doing something right. I remembered when I got married many many years ago but even then I wanted the perfect day, but having a little one in toe and working did not make it easy. I was an organizing freak then with lots of notes, but the stress I went through I sometimes wondered was it all worth it, wedding co-ordinators back then, were far and few apart and usually cost the earth, but today there is quite a few people doing this job, some good some bad, but some brides have said I 'm more then just a co-ordinator I become a friend aswell and go well above what is required of me, but that's me, as I look at it, I have been invited to help to create the perfect day for my couple and what a honor. In my eyes every couple deserves that and as far as I am concerned they will have it! What's on the horizons for the future, well only time will tell but I hope it's good! Morning everyone, I am officially back at work but have done some urgent consultations for couples over the last week or so.
I would not call this a blog, but more of a reflection of the past years. I have worked in the wedding industry for the past 3 years as more of a events dresser but also doing a little co-ordinating. In 2015 a couple were having their wedding at Clawson Lodge and asked me to get involved with the co-ordinating, which of course I said yes to. Clawson Lodge is a beautiful venue, but mainly run by volunteers. The volunteers were lovely but had never done the upto date weddings of today. The wedding went without a hitch and they realised that I would fit right in with them as their official Wedding Co-ordinator, I was over the moon,as well as the dressing I realised that I enjoyed the co-ordinating even more. I have had my ups and downs and learnt alot along the way. I have co-ordinated a fair few weddings now and enjoyed every moment of them, especially working with the couples so closely getting to know them, their likes and dislikes, knowing that they can discuss anything with me, even if it is not wedding related, best of all I become their friend. Some brides say to me " do I get any bridezillas" the answer is no, every girl from a early age imagines getting married to their prince and theses brides know what they want and don't want. These brides you just have to spend more time with, getting to know them alittle more. Every couple deserves to have the Perfect Wedding. As alot of you will know I work very closely with my Daughter Emily from Em'z Flower Boutique who in my eye's is a fantastic florist, we have done a lot of weddings together over the past few years, she is a natural and was born to work with flowers. Her work is unique in every way and that's why I think brides love her wedding flowers and this is why she has decided to concentrate on being a wedding florist, it's where her heart is and a job she loves. What are my hopes for the future, well I have so many, to carry on doing what I do best and love but to incorporate more wedding co-ordination, maybe working with some new venues and organising more wedding fayres. My biggest hope is to some day have and run my own Wedding Venue, this is of course a dream, but lets see what the future holds!! Most of all I am looking forward to working with every couple who are with me this year, to help and guide them through the mind field of planning a wedding, and I know I can clearly say I will always give 100% and more. To make their wedding day a memorial day to remember like I have done past couples. |
